Career Education

The Learning Partnership

Take Our Kids to Work is an annual event in which Grade 9 students spend the day in the workplace of a parent, relative, friend or volunteer experiencing and learning about the world of work. Take Our Kids to Work Day supports career exploration and career readiness. Experiencing a “day in the life” of a professional within a workplace allows students to explore the world of work and helps them make informed educational decisions.

Other options? Anytime with these virtual reality workplace tours or Real Talk videos with real people giving real career advice, the stuff they wish they knew in high school.

Operation Veteran

Operation Veteran was founded by Dr. Paul Kavanagh, in association with the Canadian War Museum, to honour and raise awareness of veterans and their sacrifices.

Through Supply Line, one component of Operation Veteran, teachers across Canada can arrange to borrow a First World War Discovery Box. Bring the Canadian War Museum into you classroom. This learning kit contains authentic and reproduction artifacts related to Canadian military history, along with everything you need to lead engaging hands-on activities and lessons with your students.

Yukon Arts Centre (YAC) Wants To Hear From Teachers

Programming coordination  is underway. For the upcoming season, the YAC is looking to connect with teachers to find opportunities for support of the implementation of the curriculum and to bring up entertainment for youth in Yukon.
Below is a link to a 3 to 5 minute survey to help YAC gain potential programming insights. The YAC is equally interested in Whitehorse schools and schools in the communities.

Experiences Canada
Experiences Canada funds youth exchanges across Canada. Almost half of our exchanges are bilingual exchanges and the other half are thematic.  Some of the learning themes are history and heritage, environment, geography, Indigenous cultures, music and sports.

Mapping the Way
Mapping the Way is public education initiative aimed at raising awareness and understanding of the Yukon Final and Self-Government Agreements. The initiative is a partnership between the 11 Self-Governing Yukon First Nations, the Council of Yukon First Nations, and the governments of Yukon and Canada. Mapping the Way has a number of resources (videos, stories, podcasts, timelines on history of land claims negotiation, etc) that can be used in classrooms and would be a helpful additional to any lesson plans on First Nation governance or Yukon history.
